Sleep.

The past month we have all been sick.  Jason had a stomach bug the first week, than we got food poisoning from a restaurant we ate in Seattle the week after, and the past two weeks everyone has been suffering from a cold.  During the past two weeks Elliot has been having a difficult time falling asleep at night so we would rock him to sleep and when he woke up in the middle of the night from his cold just bring him into bed with us.  It worked for us, he was sleeping we were sleeping and that was all that mattered.  Now that Jason and I both have the cold and Elliot is on the full mend from it he will not go to sleep on his own.  Combined with the sickness and the time change he fights sleep like there is no tomorrow.  We decided to do the "cry it out" method last night-he cried for an hour before we went in and got him.  Tonight it was the same thing even though I rocked him for a little bit.  I just wish I knew how to help him get back on his routine of going to bed at 8:30 and sleeping through the night.  I love rocking him to sleep but I also prefer that he self soothe and go back to sleep on his own.  I wish I knew the right thing to do and I wish it was an easy answer.  I know he is fine and that he is crying because he just wants us to go in there but it works.  It breaks my heart that he cries for an hour and won't go to sleep but as soon as I pick him up and rock him he passes out.  We need some more sleep but what are we willing to do to get it?  I hate time changes.

Kony 2012

   Recently there has been a video circulating around that is all about stopping a terrible man named Joseph Kony.  This man has done horrible things, raping women, kidnapping children, and forcing those children to mutilate people as well as protect him.  I agree Kony must be stopped.  I do not agree with the Invisible Children Inc. "charity".  I put "charity" in quotations because Uganda only receives 31% of the actual money involved in this lucrative business that was started by Invisible Children the rest of the money is going towards paychecks, videos, equipment, etc.  I also believe that supporting Invisible Children is wrong in the aspect that they fully support the Ugandan Military which is accused of doing the same exact things as Joseph Kony himself.  They are accused of raping women and kidnapping children forcing them into military duties.  I found this statement by someone on a news feed that puts everything I have to say in a straight to the point manner.

I can't believe how many people are brainwashed by this BS organization. First off, Kath-040672: their low contribution numbers have come from Invisible Children themselves. They're on the record(on video) even saying that any money donated right now for this will likely not end up on the ground in Uganda. It will go towards funding their next "awareness" video. It's a never ending cycle of people who don't know any better donating to get "awareness" out to more people who won't do anything. There are PLENTY of other sources as well citing just how shady this organization is. The critics aren't jealous of anything, they're just capable of researching on their own and not letting a video evoke an emotional reaction. G102011: You're missing the point, this money isn't helping the childen. It's either gone to fund the questionable military there in Uganda, or to fund more videos.

Why do people suddenly care about this now? This guy isn't even actively participating in the crimes anymore, the footage in the video is years old, and he's been in hiding for 6 years. No doubt he's done terrible things, but why now? MONTHS ago Obama sent advisors over there to help aid military forces in finding the guy. No one cared then. In fact, many were opposed getting involved in any capacity at all. There was a poll right here on MSNBC showing half of those voting were against US action in this cause. There doesn't need to be "more awareness." After watching this video, are you going to give up everything to go to Uganda to help find the guy or to help the kids there? No, you're not. You're to going remain here in your comfortable life in the western civilized world, continuing to share these kinds of videos on your ipad because you think that means you're a passionate supporter of the cause and you're going to make a difference. The people who need to be aware of this guy, the governments, agencys, etc. trying to find him have had the guy on their radar for years. We saw how long it took to get Bid Laden. There's was no social media campaign 'spreading awareness" to help capture him, was there? You're doing nothing to "support" this cause by just spreading a video. If you're dumb enough to donate, you're money isn't helping anyone. But alas, you now have a bracelet you can wear to show how much you "support" this new cause you just found out about yesterday. People only want to "support" something when they have some sort of medal of honor they can show off to give off the illusion they care passionately about something.

You people watch one video, and suddenly you're an expert and want to blindly support something because the internet told you to and it's the current trendy thing to do. A week from now, you won't care. You'll wait til the next trendy cause comes a long. I don' t see any giant social media campaigns trying to get people to help the towns that were wiped off the map by the tornadoes last week. OUR OWN PEOPLE NEED OUR HELP. That's a cause you can directly impact. But you'd get no recognition on the internet for that. 50 million people have watched the KONY video. 50 million people that won't do anything. Imagine if just half those people instead of showing fake interest in this fad instead went out to your community, helped build a house for Habitat for Humanity, helped out at the local soup kitchen, donated to causes where your aid will help those in need directly. But alas, facebook didn't tell you to do that. Instead you'd rather give money to help make video's and pay those making the videos a nearly 6 figure salary

I am not saying do not support a cause.  I am not saying that helping Uganda isn't important. I am saying that if I am going to donate 30 dollars to help these children I expect more than 7.50 of it to go towards them.  Africare.org gives 94% of all proceeds to the children and is making a difference.  Joseph Kony is a dangerous man and yes he should be caught.  However, putting up posters around town and donating 7.50 is not going to capture him.  Donate to a cause that will actually put the children first not their income.

People Matter. And that makes me feel sad.
